Who Am I Compared to Indonesian Badminton Athletes?
By alfanadhya - September 17, 2017
This afternoon, I watched one final match of Korea Open 2017. Indonesia got such a big achievement in this event because we can put 4 delegations in final match. Moreover, we had all Indonesian final in men's single, so that Jonathan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting needed to fight each other for the gold medal. Beside that 2 young athletes, we had one mixed double delegation, Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto, and one men's double, Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon.
Sadly, I only watched Kevin/Gideon's match because I fell asleep at the time when it was actually when the game of 3 others delegations began. But the big news is, the mixed double won the game! And the other big news is, we have Ginting as the gold medalist of men's single in Korea Open 2017.
When I woke up, I switched on the TV and watch the game. Wow, Kevin/Gideon faced Boe/Moegensen again this time. Our team have never won against this Denmark team. It makes sense actually because in their semifinal yesterday, they celebrated their 400th wins among the games all of their career in badminton world. With that achievement, it is reasonable to get an easy win for them because of all the experiences they have got.
In this match, Kevin/Gideon needed to fight hard. They were able to save the game for a moment by winning the second set so that the match had to be rubber games. In my opinion, their defence against the Denmark had increased. They could throw back the difficult shuttlecock in some long rallies. Even though they had played and struggled so hard, in the third game, they still had to give up to the Denmark. Yeah, I think, it is okay to lose again this time, because as I said before, I saw that their defence against the Denmark was getting better. During the game, I saw that Kevin's face did not show his "superior" look as always. He looked pressured. Yeah, it is normal actually because he had to face an opponent he had never won before.
Kevin/Gideon showed a contrast expression compared to the Denmark in awarding ceremony. They seemed to hold their cry of disappointment. I felt their feeling too when I saw these scene.
Then suddenly, my mind went to the last TV show that I watched which reported the audition of Djarum Badminton Scholarship. The contestants were children under the age of 13. I saw how powerful they were in their age. There were a lot of young athletes who were brave enough to leave their hometown to get a better training in other city. They showed their big love and proud of Indonesia through badminton. I almost cry because I feel have never give something big to Indonesia compared, to the athletes. They struggled from a very very young age to prepare something big for Indonesia later in the future.
So, what can I do to Indonesia later, or maybe tomorrow, with such lack ability of mine? I am just a girl who still don't have a stable mind and can easily follow the common waves. I just....don't know...
So sad :"(
